Modern, fuel-efficient aircraft are designed to fly at higher altitudes where the air is thinner, reducing drag and fuel consumption. However, this study reveals an unexpected consequence: these aircraft are more likely to produce longer-lasting contrails, which could potentially offset some of their environmental benefits.
